A picture is worth a thousand words, but a comic strip is no ordinary picture! It's worth a lot less.

Weekend Workshop: Is that still a thing?
It is! I just haven't done it in a while. I always mean to, but it's the weekend...
Just one letter...
Obviously this could never happen, because Sarah is effortlessly brilliant at everything.
There was originally an actual joke in this strip, so I edited it to be more consistent with the rest of Arlo and Janis.
I don't even know why I did this one.
Gunther's mum, has got it going on, she's all that Quill wants and he's waited for so long. Oh Luann can't you see...

Melodrama Monday: Life-Altering Changes
Arlo and Janis is usually pretty light on story, but it does have one and it has moved forward a bit recently. Although each week of story is separated by at least a week of non-plot-related strips, it has been established recently that the restaurant where Gene and Mary Lou (Arlo and Janis's son and his wife) work is closing down. Janis was very upset about it for a while, but everyone else seems to be taking it fairly well.
"Hey, Skeeter!" says Meg.
"Hey, Meg!" says Skeeter. "What's up?"
"My mom's restaurant is closing!" says Meg, wide-eyed as though she can hardly believe it.
"No way!" says Skeeter, unironically.
"Way!" says Meg. "They haven't told me yet, but I know!"
"Will you have to move?" asks Skeeter. "I sure hope not! I'd miss all those great leftovers your folks bring home!"
It's funny because the leftovers come from the restaurant, so they'll be gone either way.
Another comic with an incredibly slow-moving story is Between Friends. Recently Maeve met a man who spoke no English and decided to go to Germany with him. When she realised that that was actually crazy she instead went with her ex-husband. Turns out he wanted to get back together with her, which was not something she was keen on. Now she's been hanging out in Paris and is thinking of moving there permanently, assuming she can convince her company to transfer her there.
It sounds somewhat interesting when I put it like that, but it actually hasn't been, and unlike Arlo and Janis the Between Friends strips that don't move the plot forward are all about how insufferable the main cast are. They are petty, mean, smug and vindictive, so even though this Maeve in Europe thing is obviously not going to lead anywhere and has been a total waste of time, it's the best this comic has ever been.
Apartment 3-G hasn't moved on much this week, Tommie's fiancé is still dead, there's still a deer in the flat, the professor is still the only one who seems to care enough about Tommie to pay any particular attention to her or how she's feeling. Actually, I'm not even sure where Lu Ann even is right now. Has she wandered off and gotten lost?
A week later at Manhattan General...
"Good morning, Ms. Dawkins." says Tommie cheerily.
"Tommie — what are you doing here?" asks Ms Dawkins, flustered.
"I'm ready to go to work." says Tommie.
"Sit down, dear." says Ms. Dawkins. "We need to talk!"
Looks like Tommie is still in the denial phase.

Arlo and Janis
Janis is in the bath. Suddenly a courier appears in the doorway asking her to sign for a package. She does so. Fortunately he has not seen any of her body below the shoulders as she is bathing in some opaque water that she learned about from Blondie and Dagwood Bumstead.

Arlo and Janis
Janis is in her underwear in the back yard doing t'ai chi ch'uan. Arlo pops up from behind the hedge, scowling.
"Call it tai chi," he says, "but I think you're sunbathing!"

Pondering Arlo and Janis
How do you "Like" the weather? And then six other people Like her Like? That is not how Facebook works. You can't do that. And you certainly can't Dislike things. What social network is Janis even using? Also, why doesn't she know who Liked or Disliked her Like? Does it just give you raw numbers? That doesn't seem very useful. I think I'll stick with Facebook.

Arlo and Janis
Janis drops a plate on the floor. Arlo looks up at the noise. The two of them stand over the shattered remains.
"One less 'thing'!!" they yell as they high-five.

Arlo and Janis
Arlo is sitting on the couch watching TV. He picks up the remote control and does something with it, then continues to watch. Janis, who has been sitting beside him, stands up.
"I think I'll go read!" she says.
"The video store is dead! Long live the video store!" thinks Arlo, doing something with the remote again.

Arlo and Janis
Arlo is asleep. Janis is glaring at him. Without saying anything, Janis slowly moves out of view. Arlo wakes up.
"A husband doesn't have to know everything." he says, going back to sleep.

Arlo and Janis
30 days hath September...
Arlo looks at a calendar.
April, June and November...
Arlo tears out the page for September and scrunches it up.
All the rest have thirty-one, Excepting February, but wait...
A snowman stands at the horizon at night.
Don't they all have twenty-eight?
Arlo hurls the paper ball at a rubbish bin and misses. He grimaces, spasms and falls down.

Arlo and Janis
Arlo and Janis are behind an amorphous pink blob, their heads turned to face each other.
"Come on! Watch it with me!" says Janis, her bizarrely elongated mouth making her look like an anthropomorphic dog, although she is not.
"No..." replies Arlo, despite lacking a mouth with which to speak.
The camera pans down slightly, showing us a little more of the pink thing, revealing nothing new about its nature or composition.
"It's very popular! Critics love it!" continues Janis.
"It's a matter of principle." Arlo's mouth has appeared now, drawing further attention to its absence in panel one.
Close up on the now visibly angry Arlo. "I see enough advertising!"
"I refuse to watch a show about people who make advertising!" says Arlo, casually wandering off. Janis, meanwhile, has lost interest and is looking at something else. Her mouth has now disappeared.
The pink blob was a couch, they were sitting on it.
